Wet and Wild at Tringalwadi

It's that time of the year again when we can walk in the clouds ,enveloped by fog and experience the bliss of the cool breeze and refreshing rain....Yess!!! It's monsoon and it is incomplete without the much-awaited monsoon treks. The rains make us feel alive again and to experience the magic of my first monsoon trek for the year I joined in with Tattva's trek to Tringalwadi.

The long train ride to Karjat was full of bonding time as I met up with old and new trekkers.Listened to trek tales and made new plans for treks and also got to know each other better on the long early morning ride.Once at Karjat we got into jeeps and set out for the base village. On the way a halt at apna Baba Da Dhaba for chai-coffee and yummy nasta  and off we went again ,but not before having a good time watching Lawrence and his guy-bonding with the local bull (ek nayii love story). In the jeep had loads of fun with masti-bhare geet naye-puraane.It was a quiet village which had beautiful surroundings.Had the introduction round and the birthday girl, Nidhi's mom ,cut the cake.We were joined in our intro by a peeke tunn villager who wanted to follow us on our trek, thanks to our dear Lawrence he did not. A few village dogs (Bandya's) followed us to the top.As we climbed higher, the view kept getting better. It was an awesome feeling to see the fog covered hills all around and lush greenery surrounding us,such a change from the concrete jungles we inhabited. It was an easy trek but yet we made sure to take regular breaks for water and photography.Rain and sun kept playing aankh-micholi all through the trek.the photographers had a hard time trying to keep their cameras dry and safe. The weather was really awesome!Cool winds , beautiful scenery, fog , rain ,sun and great company....life set hai!We reached the top soon and were amazed to see the great view....we were surrounded by hills and greenery. It's not everyday that one gets to have lunch in such pristine surroundings. All made a beeline for Jeanette's chicken sandwiches and had lunch. Lawrence had his  aamsutra moment with the two mangoes he sucked while Jigar went around offering his balls to everyone (cheese ball, you dirty minds!!!) On the way up we saw an ancient cave and the Hanuman darwaja where there was a huge bright orange Hanuman where we had many clicks taken. The view from that point was breath-taking! Here too it started raining so it was difficult to click photographs, but relentlessly we carried on and tried to make the most of the lovely weather.Once at the top we sat and took in the beauty of nature and then made our way back to the village. We changed into dry clothes and had garam lemon grass tea and biscuits. It was really refreshing. At the base village we walked around the village and clicked pictures and also saw a couple of boys walking on stilts.

Had an awesome time with old mates and new buddies like Merawala Maggi- Yashwant ,the Lobo boy-Sheldon, Sithara and a few more.back to the jeeps and we rode back to Karjat. This time too the Antakshari continued and we remembered Jaal and his songs....bharo,maang meri bharo ! Memorable moments- It was proved that girls love curls (Sunn raha hai na tu,Sai?) and Lawrence kept reminding us -Don't take overtake! Once in the train ,we began with the favourite of trekkers-Mafia game and another group kept the train compartment entertained with their dumb charades. So from the start to the end had been a fun-filled trek thanks to the leaders Sai and Lawrence.Tattva group has a way of making us enjoy to the fullest and it really spreads smiles.

Here are a few snapshots of the Trek.

The hero of the day-malpua and rabdi.Delicious!!!

The phirni was as good......

Frying garam malpuas....what a huge one!!!

Last year when my friends went to Mohmad Ali road on a photo cum food walk ,I missed it and regretted it.This time I caught hold of my old college friends and made a plan for a a food walk down Mohmad Ali road, Bhendi Bazaar.Luckily we had Arif,a local to guide us along. We reached Minara Masjid by 8.30 pm and on the way there saw so many stalls all lit up for the evening. We were told they stayed that way till the early morning hours and there were huge crowds of buyers .It was like a huge fair! The most crowded was the lanes just behind the Masjid.

What an experience it was!The smells, the crowds, the food....all was a treat to the senses. All around there were lovers of food who were being lured by the enticing food in the stalls and restaurants .Here, there were many in their traditional wear like skull caps and hijabs and also those who had come to experience the thrill of the famous Mohmad Ali road Iftaar evening. After taking in the scene for a while and making our way through the crowds and clicking photographs we sat at Bademiya's for soup and bheja masala.Frankly speaking the word zubaan soup made me squirm unintentionally and I had only the broth and left the pieces of the goat tongue. After that we had a taste of the sundaal (not too good to taste) and then it was time to sit at Shalimar restaurant for the famous malpua-rabdi.It was a huge one and even three of us could not finish it.It tasted heavenly! After that we ate phirni which was less sweeter as compared to the rabdi and malpua. We also got a few phirnis (in earthen containers) packed. On our way out we saw the men frying the huge malpuas in huge pans.Once again we made our way back through the crowds.Heard the sound of the Azaan and saw the devouts rush towards the Masjid for their evening prayers,we learnt that there was a prayer at regular intervals during this period.I was happy experiencing this Iftaar evening and getting a few clicks that  I wanted. This is an experience one should not miss. Even vegetarians can go there to have a taste of the sweet delicacies. Had a great time chatting up with old pals and eating, two things I enjoy doing.
After my food walk with friends I have read a few blog posts on the best places to visit during Iftaar evenings so next time I know where to head. It is always good to be prepared, what say???
